When outfitting your RV one of the most important areas in your RV is your kitchen or as it is called by RVers. Take some time and think about you will really need and what you will really use. In an RV weight is an important issue so you need to think about how much “stuff” you want to take and what that “stuff” weighs.
Do you need to take 3 skillets and 4 pots or will 1 of each do? Cleaning up is also an issue so think not stick skillets and pan. Also you will generally have less burners so you do you need to have them all cooking at once. Think crock pots, electric skillets and grilling. They are multi purpose and work well. You can even set them up outside on the picnic table or a portable table. Cooking outside also keeps the grease and smoke outside of your RV.
As far as tableware do you really need a matched set? Think storage space as space in an RV is at a premium. You want lightweight, stack able and even disposable. When you are on the road you also might be eating out more, eating lighter and simpler and baking a whole lot less. Almost all RV’s have microwave ovens and you will be using them often. Make sure the utensils, cookware and tableware is all microwavable. On a nice sidenote microwavable dishes are usually very lightweight.
When filling the pantry you do not need as many spices and seasonings as you do at home. Take your favorites and leave the rest at home. You normally will not be making exotic expensive and labor intensive dishes so keep the seasonings and spices simple and easy. For cansisters think lightweight plastic. They do not break and keep your sugar, flour, and cookies fresh. When possible buy staples in boxes and not cans as they are lighter in weight and stack better than cans. Also buy prepared foods that can be heated in the microwave and not on top of the stove. The supermarket is loaded with prepared foods, that taste good and are easy and convenient to prepare.
Finally when filling the fridge you normally will also have to think smaller space although the larger and new RV’s are equipped with a full size fridge. Take only what you will need and leave the exotics at home.
If you remember to think small, lightweight, and convenient your kitchen will be outfitted just the way you li
